Over the past few weeks, I have been trying to figure out what my 2018 new year resolutions should be. I aimed for achievable goals that challenge me to push forward. Over the years it got kind of boring having the same ole resolutions like losing weight, eating better or new year new me etc. So I created resolutions, that I truly feel will make my 2018 a great year where I can flourish into the young woman I want to be. Read on for my unusual 2018 new year resolutions. I hope they inspire you to make some unusual resolutions for yourself.
Resolution #1 – Get uncomfortable
With this resolution, I want to get myself out of my comfort zone and do things I always wanted to but was too shy to do. It should motivate me to put myself out there and go after my goals and dreams. In some way, this blog is the first step towards being more uncomfortable. A blog, especially a lifestyle blog, is something really personal. In order to connect with my readers, I have to come out of my shell and really put myself out there. Worst of all put a picture of me on the internet (jk 🙂
Resolution #2 – Be shameless
This resolution kind of follows the premise of getting uncomfortable. I got this idea from a You Tuber called Shameless Maya.
I am naturally a really secretive person that doesn’t share a lot, not even with my friends and family. No one in my circle knows that I started this blog. I haven’t told anyone out of fear they may think it’s a stupid idea or a waste of time and money. To be honest here, I am kind of embarrassed having a blog and trying to make it a big one at that. What if all fails? What will they think of me? Since I don’t have a huge following (actually no following at all) it is kind of embarrassing sharing this project with them at the very beginning.
To give you a better understanding of my anxiety about my friends finding this blog: The other day a friend of mine found the Instagram account to this blog. I was devastated. For a solid 3 weeks, I stopped working on my blog, deactivated my Instagram account and contemplated of deleting this blog. I haven’t seen her since or talked to her about it.
2018 will be the year I shamelessly promote myself (this one is going to be a hard one).
Resolution #3 – Commit to yourself
This one was an eye opener after I heard it from a motivational speaker on YouTube (I forget her name). People often commit to promises they give to others. For example, I will be watering the plants of my neighbor every week for 5 weeks until he’s back from holiday. We do such things out of the kindness of our heart. But how is it we can’t commit to working out every week or taking a day off from our phones every week out of the kindness for ourselves. People have a hard time committing to themselves but could easily commit to promises they give to their family and friends.
So, for 2018 I want to commit to my goals small or big out of self-love.
Resolution #4 – Be on time, every time
I have a huge problem with being on time. Somehow, however, I am always on time when it comes to ‘important’ stuff like school, work or appointments. But for the life of me, I am always late when I have plans with family and friends. And when I say I am always late I am talking one hour late. I really have to get rid of this bad habit. It’s annoying and it sends a signal that my friends and family are not important enough to me, which is not true at all. They are just as important as school and work but I really can’t figure out why I’m always late.
For 2018 I will be on time, every time.
Resolution #5 – Money challenge
I know, I know this one is a typical one. Everyone is trying to save money as a new year resolution. This time around, however, I am making a challenge out of it. Every month I am going to put away money according to the number of the month. So, for example, on January I will be saving 100 Francs, on February 200, on March 300 and so on until December, which would be 1200 Francs. I calculated a total of 6800 Francs saved.
I hope this post inspired you to make some unusual 2018 new year resolutions yourself. At the end of 2018, I will do a follow up on what I achieved and what I didn’t.
