Today I’m switching it up a bit. Instead of a beauty or DIY article, I will share my 2-Day Trip to Mauritius. I hope you enjoy!
Day of Arrival – Time to Sleep
After a 10-hour flight to Mauritius, I couldn’t wait to fall into my bed. FYI the bed wasn’t that comfortable but enough to make me fall asleep. Five hours later and re-energized I went straight to the beach bar of the hotel to meet some of my peers. They weren’t there yet so I decided to take a walk at the beach. That’s when the beautiful pictures down below were shot. The pictures are unedited and I only used my iPhone 7 to shoot.
I noticed that the clouds seem closer to the earth on the island.
Day N°1 – Taxi from Hell
The next day we felt adventurous and spontaneously arranged an island tour with a taxi we found a few minutes away from our hotel. We got inspired by our peers who were offered a tour by their cap driver the night before. Like the title suggests we weren’t as lucky with our cap driver.
First, he was pissed that we bargained a lower price. Then, he was stubborn on driving us back to the hotel as soon as 5 pm. On top of that, he was very keen on showing us the south of the island, which we had no interest in. After a long discussion, we got him to drive us to Port Louis. From time to time he warmed up a little and drove us to some cool sights like some sacred Hindu statues and a puny waterfall.
For the most part, our taxi drove 60 km/h on a 110 km/ h route which was really annoying. Save to say at the end of the trip he didn’t get a tip.
Towards the end of the day, it started raining so we had to choose an indoor activity. We ended up visiting a visual illusion museum.
Nevertheless, it was a fun trip. Like mentioned above we visited Port Louis. I bought 2 small bottles of lavender essential oil and almost was seduced into buying an 80 dollar crystal necklace. I think the next time I’m visiting Mauritius I will buy the necklace.
Day N°2 – Sweet Bluebay
On day 2 of our trip, we wanted to visit a more beautiful beach than the one we were staying at. So we spontaneously chose to visit Île aux Cerfs, which is a really beautiful little island located on the west side of Mauritius. Approximately a 1.5-hour drive from our hotel. We had 3 problems though.
The first problem was that we didn’t want the taxi driver we had yesterday to drive us again. But there he was bright and early – actually it was close to 11 am – waving from afar because he had noticed us coming. At first, we tried to bargain a good price but shortly after we gave up and had the brilliant idea to take the bus. After discovering that it would take us 4 hours to get to Île aux Cerfs by bus we quickly decided against that idea.
It took us 1 bus, 2 taxis and one passenger – taxi change to finally get into a cap and drive to Blue Bay. At this point, it was well after 12 am and it would’ve made no sense to drive 1.5 hours to Île aux Cerfs. Especially, as we planned to be back at our hotel at 4 pm. To add to that no one offered us a fair price to drive us to the little island. In effect, Blue Bay was the best next beach we were offered.
In hindsight we made some mistakes that would’ve been avoidable. Like planning beforehand, waking up earlier and NOT using the famous tourist island as the destination but using Trou D’Eau Douce as a destination point and then taking the boat to the island. In the end, everything turned out alright so there’s no remorse there.
